The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (WEM) community is grieving the loss of Jeff “Wags” Wagner, a cherished former coach and teacher who courageously battled stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Wagner, remembered for his unwavering dedication to students and athletes alike, passed away leaving a profound legacy of mentorship, leadership, and kindness that touched countless lives.
Wagner’s influence was most deeply felt as the head coach of the JWP (Jordan-Waterville-Elysian-Morristown) Boys Basketball team. For years, he poured his heart into developing his players, guiding them not just in athletics but in life. He was a mentor and role model, teaching lessons of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance that extended far beyond the court. His passion for the game and genuine care for his athletes left a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of playing under him.
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, the JWP Boys Basketball program reflected on Wagner’s profound impact. “To my former coach, mentor, colleague, and friend — you made an incredible impact both on and off the court. Your guidance shaped so many lives, and your legacy will continue to echo through every player, student, and community member you touched. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple in remembrance, and a free-will donation box will be available to support Wagner’s family with medical expenses. The event will serve as a moment for the community to come together, share memories, and show gratitude for a man who gave so much to others.
